As a former teacher, this isn’t the primary problem. The administration does the same thing. When i sent a kid to the office for doing something bad (not talking out of turn of something small I could handle in class, but things like me asking a student to open his book and him telling me to go fuck myself) the administration would play the “buddy” card and then come down on me for not building relationships. When grades were low (not because the student was having a hard time with a difficult subject, but because he hadn’t turned in homework since the start of the term and hands in blank tests) admin would suggest I “boost” the grade. When I refused, admin would simply “fix” the grades to reflect higher GPAs. The problem is that all the focus is on grades and diplomas, not learning and achievement.
